Jolyon Laycock is a composer, pianist, conductor, singer, music-animateur and poet. During the 1970s he pursued a freelance career as experimental sound artist at the Birmingham Arts Laboratory. During the 80s and 90s he established a reputation as a concert promoter, first as Music and Dance Co-ordinator at Arnolfini, Bristol, and later as founder and director of the award-winning concert series Rainbow over Bath. He became Chairman of the Severnside Composers Alliance in 2012. In recent years he returned to composition. In 2012 he won the English Poetry and Song Society Jubilee Song Competition resulting in an Arts-Council-funded commission for Dark Seas, a setting of five poems of Philip Larkin for soprano, clarinet and piano premiered by Sarah Leonard.
